Whats ServiceNearby.com ?

Im Matt, I live in the Northern Beaches of Sydney, and I love to build stuff that solves problems. This is my latest invention, and I hope you will be as excited as I am to participate in it.

What is Service Nearby?

Its an idea that I have been tossing around since I recently spent weeks searching for a local service, in my case I was after a babysitter.

The issue I had while searching for a local babysitter in my neighbourhood was that while there were other directory services out there, they weren’t really community based. What I mean by this is that they were either large online paid directories (like one you would usually use to sell your car for example), or they were a simple, nasty, classified sites without any sense of community about them, lots of categories, and weren’t really focused on one specific community based service.

So I thought, hey, why dont I create an Australian, local community for each service (e.g. Babysitting in this case) that is sort of somewhere in between classified site and a directory service.

But, perhaps even more important than anything else, the community would be distinguished by being a combination of:
- Local, and
- Focused on an explicit service

Ultimately, when the community grows, and the service takes off, I would love to broaden the various communities. For example perhaps Pool Services Nearby, Gardening Services Nearby, who knows, but the potential is there and no doubt the community will inform me what the priority is next.

So there you have it.
